Bashar Farhat

Art of Migration – Artist Profile: Bashar Farhat

It’s time to meet the first of our six featured artists in the run up to our Art of Migration showcase in June!

Bashar Farhat was twice detained by the government regime whilst training to be a paediatrician at Aleppo University; Bashar fled, first to Lebanon where he ran creative writing workshops in Shatila refugee camp near Beirut, then on to the UK in 2015 and Bradford where he was given humanitarian protection, and where he continues to write & deliver creative writing workshops and volunteer on creative projects.

Bashar writes his intensely personal poetry in Arabic and now English. He’ll be exhibiting and giving readings of his Arabic & English poetry at The Art of Migration shows in both Wakefield & Sheffield.
